Слайд 2 I. Sport as a profession
Professional sports,
as opposed to amateur sports, are those in which athletes receive payment for their performance.
While men have competed as professional athletes throughout much of modern history, only recently has it become common for women to have the opportunity to become professional athletes.
Professional athleticism has come to the fore through a combination of developments. Mass media and increased leisure have brought larger audiences, so that sports organizations or teams can command large incomes.
As a result, more sportspeople can afford to make athleticism their primary career, devoting the training time necessary to increase skills, physical condition, and experience to modern levels of achievement.
This proficiency has also helped boost the popularity of sports.
Слайд 3 History of professional sport
The English public school system (EPS)
of the second half of the 19th century had a major influence on many sports. The schools contributed to the rules and influenced the governing bodies of those sports out of all proportion to their size. The public schools had a deep involvement in the development many team sports including all British codes of football as well as cricket and hockey.
The International Olympic Committee (IOC) invited a representative of the Headmasters' Conference (HC, the association of headmasters of the English public schools) to attend their early meetings. The Headmasters' Conference chose the Reverend Robert Laffan, the headmaster of Cheltenham College, as their representative to the IOC meetings. He was made a Member of the IOC in 1897 and, following the first visit of the IOC to London in 1904, he was central to the founding of the British Olympic Association a year later.
Until Recent times professional athletes in English sport, particularly cricket, were unthinkable and hence most players were amateurs.
The EPS subscribed to the Ancient Greek and Roman belief that sport formed an important part of education, an attitude summed up in the saying: "mens sana in corpore sano"; “a sound mind in a healthy body”. In this ethos, taking part has more importance than winning, because society expected gentlemen to become all-rounders and not the best at everything. Class prejudice against "trade" reinforced this attitude. The house of a typical EPS boy would have a tradesman's entrance, because tradesmen did not rank as the social equals of gentlemen.

Слайд 5Many children dream of choosing the professional sport as their future
occupation.
The boys often dream of becoming football players, while the girls are fond of dancing. Attending the sport clubs and going in for sport are praiseworthy. It may have only positive impact on one's health.
These children would be disillusioned if they knew what the real professional sport is. Sometimes even parents cannot explain their children that the world of professional sport is cruel.
In order to become a well-paid sportsman, one is to demonstrate some outstanding results. Many sportsmen take performance-enhancing drugs, ruining their health.
Sportsmen are often traumatized during their trainings and competitions. Some of the traumas may even have the long-term consequences and make the sportsman leave the professional sport.
Actually, professional sport has nothing in common with the healthy way of life.
1. Impact of professional training on one's health
Pros and Cons of Choosing Professional Sport as a Profession
Слайд 62. Hazards of professional sport
The professional sportsmen undergo different types of
pressure. They are to come up to the expectations of their fans and sponsors. Everyone forgets about the underachieving sportsmen the next day after their failure. It means that they can have not only physical but psychological traumas as well.
The main hazards of the professional sport are
- physical and psychological traumas;
- overwork of the organism due to enormous trainings;
- becoming drug abused willing to enhance one's performance.
The next question is the future perspectives of the former professional sportsmen. This profession has very strict age limitations. Very rarely they can remain in the professional sport after they are more than thirty. But the sport was their life and they have no other talents. Becoming a coach may be a way out. But coaching is not the same as participating in the competition.
All these factors are to be taken into consideration before choosing the professional sport as one's occupation.

1. Neymar, Brazil – Soccer
He is
being touted as the next Pele’. At such a young age, Neymar is already being argued as even better than Lionel Messi, the Argentine soccer phenomenon. And to think that he is only 20 years old and still not playing in the big leagues in Europe, although definitely not because of a lack of interest. The huge-spending clubs, such as Barcelona and Real Madrid of Spain’s La Liga and Chelsea and Manchester City of England’s Premier League, have all inquired and are ready to place a record-breaking bid for the Brazilian playmaker. But he is biding his time and remains loyal to his Brazilian club Santos. Neymar is aware, however, that to fully realize his potential, he has to make the move to Europe one day. And when that happens, expect more products lining up for his signature. Panasonic, Volkswagen, Red Bull, Unilever and Nike have already beaten everybody else to the draw. Neymar is not lacking of smart advisers, as well. To take full advantage of the transfer money that will be tabled for him, he has retained ownership to half the rights for these fees. And to get some of that money now, he has actually sold shares for anyone interested in getting a percentage of those rights.
Слайд 82. Rory McIlroy, Northern Ireland – Golf
The epic collapse in the 2011
Masters is now behind him. As a matter of fact, Rory McIlroy did not take a long time to recover. Just a couple of months after shooting one of the worst final rounds in major golf history, the kid from Northern Ireland picked himself up and won the US Open. Still only 23, he won a second major earlier this year when he bagged the US PGA crown. He has endorsements with Nike, Jumeirah Estates, Oakley, Audemars Piguet and Santander. He is dating the hot and popular tennis player, Caroline Wozniacki. The kid is certainly doing all right.
Слайд 93. Lionel Messi, Argentina – Soccer
Time Magazine once hailed him as King
Leo. He has sublime skills on the football field, and he is the most talented player for one of the most talented football teams ever assembled in history in Barcelona. Quiet and unassuming off the pitch, Messi is a dynamo and unstoppable scoring machine on it. He has won the Ballon d’Or as the World Player of the Year three times. On the team front, name it and his club team probably has more than one copy of it – the Champions’ League, European Super Cup, Club World Cup, La Liga, Copa del Rey, Spanish Super Cup. He is now more focused in helping out his native Argentina’s national team as well, having been appointed as team captain in their drive to qualify for the World Cup in 2014. Companies have recognized Messi’s appeal, and Pepsi, EA Sports, Audemars Piguet, Dolce & Gabanna and Herbalife have all signed him up. He only stands 5’7”, but this small package has definitely yielded some huge things.

Слайд 104. Usain Bolt, Jamaica – Athletics
The man with the appropriate name, Bolt
makes sprinting look easy, often slowing down before the finish line but still breaking world records by a comfortable margin. He will then strike his lightning bolt pose for the world to see. Bolt is fast, and Puma moved the fastest in signing up the sprinter.
Слайд 115. Cristiano Ronaldo, Portugal – Soccer
Manchester United snapped him up from Sporting
Clube when he was 18. Real Madrid snapped him up for $130 million dollars. And he has not disappointed, snapping goals with such regularity as the lynchpin of Real’s ouster of Barcelona as the kings of Spain. He is the athlete with the most number of Facebook followers. Nike and Castrol are ardent admirers as well.
Слайд 126. Blake Griffin, USA – Basketball
He makes video game moves come to
life. Yes, Griffin’s dunks are so amazing that he can fill up his own top ten dunks. He has made the Clippers respectable, and Kia, AT&T and Subway have all taken notice.
Слайд 137. Novak Djokovic, Serbia – Tennis
The guy who broke the Federer-Nadal duopoly,
Djokovic is already considered as one of the all-time best. He has five majors, and he has broken into the endorsement business as well, signing up with Adidas, Audemars-Piguet and Mercedes Benz.
Слайд 148. Sebastian Vettel, Germany – F1
At 25 years old, he is the
youngest champion of F1. And the youngest double champion. This year, he is on track to be the youngest triple champion. All those Red Bull must be energizing him to keep breaking new records.
Слайд 159. Tim Tebow, USA – Football
He shot to fame as the quarterback
of the Denver Broncos, winning constantly and guiding them to a playoff win despite being seemingly over his head. The team didn’t have faith in him, however, and sent him to the New York Jets. Through it all, he has made Tebow-ing part of our lexicon, as it reflects his faith in God. Nike and Jockey have kept their faith in him.
Слайд 1610. Yani Tseng, Taiwan – Golf
The Taiwanese on the list is not
Jeremy Lin, but Yani Tseng. Tseng has won already won five majors. She has been Player of the Year twice, and it’s safe to say she’ll win many more, as she is still only 23. This augurs well for Acer and Taiwan Mobile, who both have signed her up for lucrative deals.
Слайд 17 II. Sport for pleasure.
Needless to
say that sport plays an important role in our life. It gives us much pleasure and many moments of joy. By playing some sport we learn how to have fun, individually and in a group. Of course, we do learn quite a few lessons also about sorrow, and how to deal with it.
There are a lot of kinds of sports such as swimming, wrestling, cycling, box, football, hockey, track and field athletics, fishing, golf, chess...
All of them are useful and exciting and help us to keep feet.
Слайд 18Pleasure sports are simply played for pleasure. Score is usually not
kept. The athletes participating are usually on occasion doing it for fun and exercise.
A majority of athletes who have been playing sports since they were little, have probably been pounded into their heads that to be successful in sport, you need to be aggressive, and at some times, unnecessary. Also that to get what you want, you have to go at it with all force.
Слайд 19Recreational fishing, also called sport fishing, is fishing for pleasure or competition. It can
be contrasted with commercial fishing, which is fishing for profit, or subsistence fishing, which is fishing for survival.
The most common form of recreational fishing is done with a rod, reel, line, hooks and any one of a wide range of baits. Other devices, commonly referred to as terminal tackle, are also used to affect or complement the presentation of the bait to the targeted fish.
Big-game fishing is conducted from boats to catch large open-water species such as tuna, sharks and marlin. Noodling and trout tickling are also recreational activities.
One method of growing popularity is kayak fishing. Kayaks are stealthy and allow anglers to reach areas not fishable from land or by conventional boat.
Слайд 20 Hockey, figure skating, skiing and skating are among the most
popular winter sports.
In summer swimming is enjoyed by millions of people. There are also many indoor swimming pools, which make swimming possible all the year round.
Cycling is useful exercise, too, because it takes you out into the fresh air and gives much work to all the muscles.
Слайд 21III. Sport for health and body care.
They say, "Health is
above wealth".
Thousands of people consider sports to be very helpful in gaining good health. That's why every country pays much attention to developing sports. It is sport that helps to bring up physically strong, strong-willed, courageous and energetic people.
Unfortunately, it is very difficult to find time for going in for sports regularly. People have become too busy nowadays.
Слайд 22Physical training is an essential part of young people's development. All
pupils and students have regular training at PT lessons. These classes are enjoyed by everybody as they give a lot of energy, develop muscles, make pupils strong, quick and healthy.
From time to time different kinds of competitions are organized at school or between schools. The most popular sports at schools are basketball, football and volleyball.
Besides, pupils and students attend a lot of sports clubs and sports sections after classes, where they take up their favourite kind of sport.

asset in ethics and the construction of civil society. Duty towards the teammates; duty towards the supporters; duty towards ourselves, for the dignity we owe to ourselves.
