The Great Patriotic war is the greatest mental suffering in people`s hearts. It is difficult to imagine how our grandfathers and grandmothers lived during the war.
It is years since the Great Patriotic war was but we shouldn`t forget about the people who gave us our bright future.
They fought for our country, carried out their duty and protected us, our duty -remember the exploits of immortal heroes.

My great-grandfather name was Peter Nikolaevich Nikitin. During the first civil war his father died and he was raised by his mother.
The family had 3 children and he was the youngest of them. He studied at Sunday school for two years because he had to work.

He was a naughty boy and was punished because his mother was very strict.

In 1938 he returned home and was married. His wife has presented him with a son ,Peter in 1939. In 1941 he and fellow villagers received call-up papers from military registration and enlistment office.

As Peter Ivanovich had driving skills of motor transport driver, he was appointed the driver of fighting machine on the Western Front.

During the liberation of Krakow the Germans blew up the bridge and it was impossible to drive to this city. Then his troops put sleepers and rails into the exploded space and drove on them. So they were the first in the city.

Kursk Bulge. It was a strong fight, they couldn`t see the sun because of the smoke and dust and everything looked like hell. There was no time to pull out the shells from the boxes and load the gun with them. The slivers flew everywhere, the earth trembled…

about it. He was rewarded with two Orders of Lenin. My great-grandfather was very strict. He was very hard-working. To his mind there was no time for entertainment.

Peter Ivanovich stayed in Petrovo alone. His children came to visit him and help about the house.

terrible ordeals of the war years. The most valuable thing in his life was - a family. He fought for our future and he believed in his family and it helped him very much,gave him strength to fight,to be brave, to do heroic actions.He wanted a peaceful and happy life. I am proud of my great-grandfather.
