When we

ride on ice, ice under pressure of the skates thaws. Between the skates and ice the sheet of water is formed. There is no this sheet of water, it would be also difficult to ride on ice, as on a floor. Water as if oil in the car, reduces friction between the skate and ice . In hard frosts formation of a water layer is at a loss, both friction force between the skate and ice increases. That is why in frosts sliding of the skates on ice worsens.
