Слайд 2More than 60% of people in the world use the telephone
in a day. Mobile phones help people stay in touch with friends and family and also provide entertainment.
Слайд 3Why cannot we throw away them?
Слайд 4The purpose of the work:
To find out how do mobile phones
affect the ecosystem?
Слайд 5The project tasks:
To figure out what mobile phones are made of
To
reveal harmful substances forming a part of mobile phone
To determinate what utilization companies are in Russia and abroad
To find out how we can help protect the ecosystem
Слайд 6Most people don't know about the impact mobile phones have on
our ecosystem. Most phones contain iron, aluminum, copper, gold, and tin. Those metals come from mines in Brazil, Peru, and China.
Слайд 7The process of mining for these metals is one major ways
mobile phones affect the ecosystem. When people mine for metals, it creates waste. Mine tailings look like mud, but the substance is actually quite toxic.
Слайд 8In 2015, a mine tailing spill in Brazil killed 19 people.
The waste travelled from the spill site all the way to the Atlantic Ocean 400 miles away.
Слайд 9In China, metals called "rare earths" are mined to go into
mobile phones. Mining for these metals requires the use of highly toxic acids.
Слайд 10China started using the World's Technology Waste Lake in 1958. It's
full of waste from rare earths mining. Mining companies funnel their acids and waste to the lake through long pipes.
Слайд 11 Deforestation in Peru
In Peru, companies cut down a
large number of trees for mining every year. Since 2011, this has helped destroy 1.8 million hectares of trees. This is a major concern since a lack of trees could lead to many problems for life on Earth.
Слайд 12Mining for phone production also puts more carbon into the air.
That means smartphones are especially damaging! All of that damage is done just to make new phones!
Слайд 13People send their old phones straight to a landfill. If we
continue with this practice, phones will account for over 12 million tons of landfill waste in 2020.
Слайд 15I downloaded search for « Office equipment recycling companies in Engels
( Saratov region)». And I found the site of «The leading Recycling Company».
Слайд 16
The conditions of utilization
of mobile phones
Слайд 17I wrote an e-mail to «Federal recycling company».
I asked a question
if they work only with legal bodies. They answered positively.
Слайд 18I tried to find companies buying up old mobiles. But they
just repair old phones instead of recycling them.
Слайд 19Moscow residents can hand over old phones in MGUP "Promothody" completely
free of charge.
Слайд 21The problem of recycling of old mobile phones in France, Japan
and Germany is solved seriously.
Слайд 22EcoATM in France
EcoATM devices are actively implemented by Apple's companies
in France. The brand takes broken and outdated models of sell phones and pays for it.
Слайд 23Recycling in Germany
An interesting approach in the struggle for good ecology
is used in Germany.
To encourage people to recycle old models many mobile operators accept phones for disposal by mail in special envelopes that can be ordered online with delivery to houses. This makes life easier for the Germans and has positive results.
Слайд 24Special containers in Japan
You can have old household appliances for recycling
in Japan without leaving home. There is a special service whose employees take and sort and recycle consumers' electronics. The most interesting thing is that a large percentage of this technique is in working condition, but morally outdated.
In Japan you have to pay for recycling. It is strictly forbidden to throw the equipment into a landfill.
Слайд 25If mobile phones are not suitable for use, it is necessary
send them for recycling because it allows:
protect the environment from pollution and help humanity to avoid various diseases
provide the necessary raw materials (precious metals, plastic)
Слайд 26What can be done?
People who have mobile phones should take care
of them.
Слайд 27Broken phones can be taken to the service centers which accept
broken phones for parts. (http://www.engelsservice.ru/, 8 (8453) 54-48-45, Engels, Petrovskaya 53)
Слайд 28I suppose our country should follow other countries` example and establish
recycling companies in provinces.
Слайд 29
Special containers must be located near houses so as not to
have a problem in throwing old phones away.
