Слайд 3There are 22 million homes in Britain – big homes and
small homes, old cottages and new high-rise buildings, houses and flats.
Слайд 5In Great Britain, families prefer to live in houses rather than
flats. Over 70% of people live in flats. About 35% of people own the houses they live in, or buy them with money borrowed from a bank or building society.
Слайд 6The semi-detached house
A semi-detached house (often abbreviated to semi) is a
single family dwelling house built as one of a pair that share one common wall. Often, each house's layout is a mirror image of the other.
Semi-detached houses are the most common property type in the UK.
Слайд 7The terrace house
Terrace houses are attached to one another on both
sides in a long row. They may be three or four storeys high and have spacious rooms. There are miles of these terrace houses in most towns.
Over a quarter of British families live in them.
Слайд 8The bungalow
All the rooms in bungalow are on the ground floor,
so it is particularly suitable type of home for older people.
The first two bungalows in England were built in Westgate-on-Sea in 1869 or 1870. A bungalow was a prefabricated single-story building used as a seaside holiday home.
Слайд 9The detached house
A detached house is a free-standing residential building. Sometimes
referred to as a single-family home, as opposed to a multi-family residential dwelling.
It has a land all around it and is the most expensive type of home.
Слайд 10A cottage
A cottage is usually situated in small country village. It
has thatched roofs and is built of local materials (stone).
Cottages have gardens with flowers and herbs for cooking.
Слайд 11A caravan
A caravan is a vehicle that people can live in
(mostly on holiday) and which is pulled by a car.
Modern travel trailers come in a range of sizes, from tiny two-berth trailers with no toilet and only basic kitchen facilities, to large, twin-axle, six-berth types.
Слайд 12A camper van
A campervan (or camper van), sometimes referred to as
a camper, or a caravanette, is a self-propelled vehicle that provides both transport and sleeping accommodation.
Слайд 13A bedsit
A bedsit, bedsitter, or bed-sitting room is a form of
accommodation common in some parts of the United Kingdom and Ireland which consists of a single room per occupant with all occupants typically sharing a bathroom.
Bedsits arose from the subdivision of larger dwellings into low-cost accommodation at low conversion cost.
Слайд 14The tower block of flats
Tower blocks of flats and offices rise
up 18 or 20 storeys high along the sky-line if cities like London and Birmingham.
These flats were built in the 1950s and early 1960s to provide the most accommodation using the least amount of land.
Слайд 15A mansion
A mansion is a large dwelling house. A traditional European
mansion was a house with a ballroom and tens of bedrooms.
Today, it is just a large and well-appointed house.
The “country house”, as it is known in English-speaking places, is a variety of mansion.
