with phonetics. It is not easy for them to identify difference between voiceless and voiced consonants, long and short vowels and etc. There are many words in English which differ only in one sound. They are called minimal pairs. These words are difficult not only to identify but also to understand and to remember.
There are some samples which can help you to overcome this situation.
