The city was founded by the Romans as Eboracum in 71 AD.
It was taken and settled by the Angles in the 5th century, then later in 7th century it is a center of Northumbria Kingdom.
In 866 Vikings captured York. Under Viking rule the city became a major river port.
In the Middle Ages, York grew as a major wool trading centre.
In the 19th century, York became a hub of the railway network.
Now York is mostly center of tourism.

Peter in York, commonly known as York Minster, is the cathedral of York, England, and is one of the largest in Northern Europe.

Fawkes. He was born in York in 1570. In 1605 he led Gunpowder Plot against King James I. The try was unsuccessful and all members were executed in 1606. This story is mentioned in famous movie “V for Vendetta”.
