of Belgorod is inseparably connected with the General history of the Russian Orthodox Church. Interesting is the fact: once, in the early 19th century there was the temple in every village of the Belgorod region. The temples were large and small, stone and wood, in a variety of architectural styles from Baroque to Classicism. Some temples have not survived to our days.

Saint Nicholas was very common. The number of Nicholas temples and his icons was the largest after the Virgin. The Russian believed that Nicholas helped them not to lose strength and protected they from diseases.
