Слайд 1ROBERT BURNS
Burns alone is enough
to make us
everlasting friends
with Scotland.
S. Marshak
25 January 1759 – 21 July 1796
Слайд 2There is no place in the world where people haven`t heard
of this great poet .
Слайд 3We have heard his poems in our popular films.
«Здравствуйте, я
ваша тетя» романс «Любовь и бедность», в фильме «Старшая сестра» - песня « И я была девушкой юной», в фильме «Служебный роман» - песня «В моей душе покоя нет…» в исполнении Алисы Фрейндлих.
Слайд 4Russian poets translated his poetry. Many of his poems were put
on music both in Scotland and in Russia.
Слайд 5 Burns was born in Alloway, South Ayrshire, Scotland. He was the
eldest of the seven children of the poor peasant William Burness. His father brought him in the love to studying. As a child Robert read lots of books. Some of them were by W.Shakespear and J.Milton.
Слайд 6After his father`s death he had to work and support the
family.
Слайд 7
The richness of his inner world and talant were fed by
self-education. His cheerfulness and love of life as it is made the poems deep.
Слайд 8In his diaries he wrote that there is a link between
love, poetry and music. Love is given from Above. He realised that the rhymes became the voice of his heart at the time when he hadn`t even thought of being a poet. He was 15 and devoted the first poem to his first love.
Слайд 9Burns travelled a lot about Scotland collecting popular folk songs.
When he was 27 he began publishing his books.
Слайд 10Robert Burns`poems are of different genres. There are toast songs, messages
to friends, satirical poems, epigrams, love lyrics and poems devoted to Motherland.
Слайд 11One of his epigrams in the S.Marshak translation.
Слайд 12
His poems are filled with love to his picturesque Motherland, Scotland.
Слайд 13My heart’s in the Highlands, my heart’s is not here,
My heart’s
in the Highlands a chasing the deer;
A-chasing the wild deer, and following the roe;
My heart’s in the Highlands, wherever I go.
Farewell to the Highlands, farewell to the North;
The birth-place of Valour, the country of worth;
Wherever I wander, wherever I rove,
The hills of the Highlands for ever I love.
Farewell to the mountains, covered with snow,
Farewell to the straths and green valleys below:
Farewell to the forests and wild-hanging woods;
Farewell to the torrents and loud-pouring floods.
My heart’s in the Highlands, my heart is not here,
My heart’s in the Highland a-chasing the dear;
A-chasing the wild deer, and following the roe-
My heart’s in the highlands wherever I go.
Слайд 15Should auld acquaintance be forgot
And never brought to mind?
Should auld acquaintance
be forgot,
And auld lang syne!
For auld lang syne, my dear,
For auld lang syne,
We’ll take a cup of kindness yet
For auld lang syne.
And here’s a hand,
My trusty friend
And give a hand of thine!
We’ll take a right good cordial drink
For auld lang syne.
In Scotland they sing this song on New Year`s Day and on Burns day. It is a traditional Scottish melody.
17In 1785 Robert Burns gave his whole heart to Jean Armour,
a daughter of a rich and arrogant peasant. Robert was poor and the loving pair was not allowed to get married. So they decided to do it secretely.
Слайд 18O, my Love's like a red, red rose,
That's newly sprung in
June.
O, my Love's like the melody,
That's sweetly played in tune.
As fair art thou, my bonnie lass,
So deep in love am I,
And I will love thee still, my dear,
Till all the seas gang dry.
Till all the seas gang dry, my dear,
And the rocks melt with the sun!
And I will love thee still, my dear,
While the sands of life shall run.
And fare thee weel, my only love,
And fare thee weel a while!
And I will come again, my love,
Though it were ten thousand mile!
Слайд 19Unfortunately, their plans failed. Robert had to leave for Jamaica. Later
when he returned they got married. That time Burns was famous and known as the bard of Scotland.
Слайд 20His health was ruined during the hard years of life. He
died at the age of 37.
Слайд 21S.Marshak made his poetry Russian, not having lost the original charm,
as once said A.Tvardovsky
Слайд 22The Burns Night celebrations can vary from a massive dinner with
music, speeches and lots of food to a quiet night of poetry reading. A traditional part of the supper is haggis, neeps and tatties. Neeps are turnips and tatties are potatoes. Both are mashed for the Burns Night supper. Haggis is a very meaty sausage. It's made out of bits of animal you'd rather not know about!
