Constitution Day
It is celebrated on the 12th of December. On
that day in 1993 the new Constitution was adopted. All progressive people in the world know very well that the Russian Constitution not only proclaims, but guarantees real rights and freedoms to Russian citizens.

It is celebrated on the 1st of January with a
New Year Tree, presents, Grandpa Frost and a hearty meal. In our country New Year is toasted in champagne at family gatherings. The Russians like this holiday best of all.

This holiday is celebrated on the 7th of January. In our
country we have Svyatki: this is the night before Christmas when many young women and girls tell fortunes and try to guess if they will get marry this year.

February 14 is the day for lovers! Valentine’s Day
is a whirl of hearts, candy and good wishes in the form of bright, lacy, colourful cards, with loving emblems and amorous doggerels, saying ‘ Be my Valentine ’.

It is celebrated on the 23rd of February. On
this day people honour those who serve their Motherland, those who protected Russia and its people from enemies, those who are in the army and in the Navy.

Maslenitsa
This pagan holiday
is traditionally celebrated at the beginning of spring. Russian people have the splendid custom to eat pancakes, burn a dummy, made of straw and old clothes, to sing and dance in a ring.

Women in all countries celebrate the 8th of March
as a day of women’s solidarity. International Women’s Day is ‘ Mother’s Holiday’ for boys and girls. They prepare presents for their mothers. They also organize concerts for parents and teachers.

It is celebrated on the 1st of April. This
is the funniest day of the year, when, traditionally, practical jokes are played. People take them in good part and laugh heartily even if some tricks or jokes have made April fools of them.

On the 12th of April every year the Russian people
celebrate Cosmonautics Day in commemoration of the first space flight in the world which was made by a Russian citizen Yuri Gagarin. He went into space and made one orbit round the Earth in his spaceship Vostok-1.

This is the most important spring holiday for the Orthodox.
On that day it is accepted to exchange a triple kiss: to give each other coloured eggs, sweets and Easter cakes.

The 1st of May is popular in our country. This
is the day of friendship and support. Thousands of people participate in May Day demonstrations in many cities.

The 9th of May is the most important date in
Russia. It commemorates the Victory of the Soviet troops over the Nazi invaders. On that day the veterans meet in the parks and squares of the cities to recollect the days of war and exchange greetings. Wartime music is played everywhere.

It is celebrated on the
1st of June. There are more than one thousand five hundred million children living on our planet. The Russian Federation can be called a country where the rising generation has a happy childhood. The Government tries to do everything possible to make childhood years healthy and happy.

On the 12th of June in 1990 Russia declared
about its national sovereignty. After the collapse of the USSR a new period of the Russian history began. Today the 12th of June is celebrated as Independence Day in Russia.

On the 1st of September all
pupils and students start the academic year. In many schools this day begins with the Lesson of Peace.

In Russia this day is traditionally celebrated on the first
Sunday of October, but nowadays Russian teachers also start celebrating their professional holiday on the 5th of October as teachers throughout the world do.
