we are going to speak about the heart of our country, its capital-Moscow, about its beautiful places of interest and sights. Imagine: your friend has summer holidays and he decided to visit your home-town Moscow. He is willing to know as much as possible about this city. That’s what you can tell him about.

In the 18th century Peter I moved the capital to St. Petersburg. Moscow. The original building of the
cathedral was started in 1839 and finished in 1863. It was designed by the famous architect Konstantin Thon and devoted to the victory of the Russian army over Napoleon’s troops in the Patriotic War of the1812.The original building was destroyed in 1931.The new building was started in 1995 and finished in 1997.

Moscow illumination –numerous historical and modern buildings are illuminated at night in a special way. This illuminated display ( a show of coloured lights) is used to make Moscow bright and colourful. Illumination gives Moscow modern and ancient buildings an impressive appearance.

The Spasskaya Tower is the most well-known of all the Moscow Kremlin Towers. It was built in 1491 and it is 71 metres high. The Kremlin chiming clock is in the Spasskaya Tower.

The Tretyakov Gallery is the art gallery in Moscow and one of the greatest museums in the world. It has a large collection of Russian Art that was started by a Moscow merchant and industrialist Pavel Tretyakov as a private collection in 1856. Pavel Tretyakov gave his collection and the collection of his brother Seigei Tretyakov to the city of Moscow in 1892. The main building of the gallery was designed by V. Vasnetsov in 1902.

Moscow Telecentre( the Ostankino Tower) one of the tallest TV towers in the world. It is only 20 metres lower than the world’s tallest TV tower in Toronto ( Canada), which rises 553 metres into the sky. It was built in 1967. The TV Tower at Ostankino stands not far from the domes of the ancient Trinity Church. At the height of 337 metres there is a popular restaurant ” Seventh Heaven”(Седьмое небо). The tables visitors sit at, are rotating so that people could see a magnificent view of Moscow. In 2000 the Tower suffered fire.

St. Basil’s Cathedral (also the Pokrovsky Cathedral) is the cathedral on Red Square in Moscow. It was built by the architects Barma and Postnik ( or one architect whose name was Barma Postnik) in 1555-1561. It was built in honour of the victory of the Russians over the Kazan khanate.It is often taken as a symbol of Moscow. Its seven domes are of different colours.
