Altai Krai
The size of Russia is hard to imagine.
In the south- east part there is the territory of the Altai Krai. Its center is Barnaul. In the south of the Altai Krai is the Altai district.
The center of it is Altaisk. People call it “ The Triplicate Altai”

Our village Altaisk differs little from
tens other quiet villages of the Southern Siberia. Everything here is simple and quiet. Altaisk stretches at seventeen kilometers with the population of twenty four thousand inhabitants. It is the centre of the Altai District.
Слайд 4 Geographical Location.
The Altai district is located in the south-eastern
part of Altai region. The area of its territory is 3, 5 thousands square kilometers. It borders on Sovetsky district in the north-east; Maiminsky district of the Altai Republic in the east, Shelabolihinsky and the Ust-Kanskiy districts of Altai Republic in the north; the Soloneshensky district and town Belokurikha in the west; the Smolensky district in the north-east. Altai district stretches from the north to the south for 44, 74 miles (72 kilometers), and from the west to the east - 52, 20 miles (84 kilometers).

Altai district is situated among the steppes and foothill of Altai
Mountains (the Anuisky Ridge, the Cherginsky Ridge and the Seminsky Ridge). Here we can find steppe, meadows, and grasslands. Large areas of the district are covered by woods of birch, aspen and pine trees.

The largest rivers are the Katun River
and the Peschannaya River. Besides Lake Aya there are more than 30 ponds.
Katun is the largest river of Altai. The river’s name is connected with the Altai word “kadi`n" –
" mistress”, “madam".
Слайд 7The center of Altai district is Altaisk. It stands on the
river Kamenka.
The river Kamenka has picturesque banks. It flows along the village Altaiskoe and in Shulginka it interflows with the Katun.

“Beluha” is the highest top of Siberian Ranges. It is
4506 m above sea level. It is a majestic monument of nature – the "relic" of the Altai mountains.

The tourist's complex «Birjuzovaya Katun` » is located on
the left coast of the Katun. It is possible to reach here by the Chujsky Tract.

Climate is determined by the geographical position of the district. It
is continental. The mountain range prevents the winds from the east and south. Winters are snowy, frosty and continuous. Summers are short, warm and sometimes dry and hot. The climate conditions are favorable practically to all kinds of agricultural crops, berries, vegetables and fruits.

Flora of the district
is also diverse. Larch (лиственница), red fur (пихта), silver fur (ель), cedar (кедр), aspen (осина), birch-tree ( берёза), different kinds of shrub (кустарник), for example, maral bush; rich grass and flowers (bluebells, daisies, pansies) grow here.

Cedar can live for 400-500 even sometimes 800 years. Some trees
have the height of (164, 04 feet) 50 meters. Some trees reach 20-30 meters and are more than 2-3 meters in diameter. Unique band pine forests stretch out hundreds of kilometers. They are especially rich in mushrooms and berries.

wild board, roe, musk, lynx, fox, sables, badger, squirrel, falcon, crane, golden eagle, hasel-hen, larks, and others…

Слайд 15The wildlife is very rich. A bear is king of Altai
forest. The elk is indeed the forest giant.
Слайд 16 Agriculture and manufacturing
Altaisk butter and cheese is highly appreciated
everywhere. In 2007 Altaisk was made the largest head of cheese in the world- the record was fixed in the Guinness Book. Its weight was 700 kilograms (1 543, 24 pounds).

Wheat and other crops are produced in big amounts. Bread, macaroni
and cookies are made by the local industrial enterprises.

Vast gardens are part of the Altaisk landscape. The inhabitants
of all neighbor districts and towns come here for gathering currant, strawberry, cowberry, cherry, plum and apples. Wheat, potato, cucumbers, pumpkin… These are just very few of what grows and is grown here. The sea-buck thorn is famous all over the world for its curative property. Different fruit and berry juices and vines are made by the local industrial enterprise. Many gardeners grow grape and pine-apples here. The village fully supplies itself with vegetables and fruits.

In 2006 on the territory of the
Altai district was founded The Natural Aya Park. Plants, animals and birds are protected here by the law. The aim of the National Park is reserving the unique nature of our place, enjoying the place. There is one of the most beautiful lakes of our region-Lake Aya. The famous Aya Lake is very picturesque. It is not large (300 for 400 meters), but it is known for its transparent blue cold water. There is built a European style hotel.
