Agatha Christie was a famous English writer. She was born on 15 September 1890 in Torquay, Devon. Her parents were wealthy US immigrants. Agatha was the youngest daughter in the family. During World War I Agatha Christie worked as a hospital nurse.
Christie published more than 60 detective novels, 6 psychological novels and 19 story collections. Her 16 plays have been staged in London.
The most famous works by Agatha Christie are “And then there were none”, “Murder on the Orient express”, “Poirot investigates”...

Swift was born in Dublin on November 30, 1667. His parents were English. When Swift graduated from Trinity College in Dublin he moved to England in 1688. From 1689 he was a secretary of the distinguished statesman Sir William Temple.
Daniel Defoe (1660 - 24.04.1731) - English writer.
Daniel Defoe (nee Daniel Foe) was born around 1659-1660 in Cripplegate, which is near London. He was a prominent English writer, essayist, pamphleteer, trader and spy. He became well-known after his novel “Robinson Crusoe”. He was also the founder of economic journalism in the UK. His father was a tradesman, but he wanted his son to become a pastor. Thus, he sent Daniel to the seminary in Newington Green. The boy studied classical literature, as well as Latin and Greek there. However, he drew a completely different path - business and trade.
George Gordon Byron (22.01.1788 - 19.04.1824) - English writer and poet
George Gordon Byron, who is often referred to as Lord, was a prominent English writer, poet and aristocrat. One of his most renowned characters was Child Harold - his alter ego, who became the prototype of numerous other heroes in European literature. That’s why even after Byron’s death his books were highly-demanded.
The well-known writer was born on January 22nd in 1788 in London. However, his mother soon got divorced and moved with little George to Scotland where her relatives lived. From the very childhood Byron suffered from physical disability, which influenced greatly his life. His right foot was deformed which caused him a limp that resulted in lifelong misery. That’s why he had quite a difficult personality and hysterical character.
William Shakespeare was an English poet, playwright and actor. He was born in 1564 in Stratford-upon-Avon. His father, John Shakespeare, was a successful artisan. William was the third child in the family. His parents had eight children in total. William Shakespeare went to Stratford grammar school.
Among his works there are such masterpieces of the world literature as “Romeo and Juliet”, “A midsummer night’s dream”, “Othello”, “King Lear”, “Hamlet” and many others. Apart from that Shakespeare wrote 154 sonnets.
Charles Dickens was born in 1812. He lived in the south of England when he was a little boy His father worked in an office. He was a very clever man, but he was very poor. Charles had many brothers and sisters, but he did not often play with them. His father had many books and Charles liked to read them. He learned to read very early.
When Charles was 10 years old, his family went to London.
In 1837 he published his first novel The Posthumous Papers of the Pickwick Club. And the young reporter became a famous writer. Then he published novel after novel — Oliver Twist, Dombey and Son, David Copperfield and many other good books.
His books are very interesting, they tell us about the hard life of the poor people in England of that time. When we read his books, we sometimes laugh, but we often want to cry.
