Слайд 2Many people all over the world are interested in sport. Sport
helps people to stay healthy and makes them more organized and better disciplined in their daily activities.
Слайд 3It is true to say that many kinds of sports come
from Britain. Moreover, the British are known to be great sports-lovers. So, if they are neither playing, nor watching games, they like to talk about them.
Слайд 4I am going to tell you about the history of football,
one of the most popular sport games all over the World.
Слайд 5Football is a popular sport played all over the world. It
is a favourite sport of most European and Latin-American countries. Millions of people in more than 140 countries play football.
Слайд 6Football is played in the Olympics. The Summer Games are held
every fourth year in different countries.
Слайд 7Games similar to football were played in China as early as
400 BC.
Слайд 8Egyptians played a kind of football too. They played games involving
the kicking of a ball.
Слайд 9In about 200 AD the Romans played a game in which
two teams tried to score by advancing a ball across a line on the field. The Romans passed the ball to one another but they never kicked it.
Слайд 10London children in about 1100 played a form of soccer in
the streets. During the 1800’s the people of England played a game similar to football.
Слайд 11Football originated from kicking games played by people in ancient times.
The modern version came from England. Football was not that popular kind of game until the mid-1900s.
Слайд 12It started as a game involving kicking and handing, but later
this branched off into two separate sports: rugby and football.
Слайд 13Around the late nineteenth century, English football began spreading over Europe.
The United States was the last to implement football as a national sport
Слайд 14The Canadian Soccer Association was established in 1912 while the United
States Soccer Federation was set up in 1913.
Слайд 15The first World Cup Championship was in Montevideo, Uruguay.
Слайд 16The final of the football competition takes place every May at
the famous Wembley stadium in London. Some of the best known clubs in England are Manchester United, Liverpool and the Arsenal. In Scotland either Rangers, Celtic or Aberdeen usually win the cup or the championship.
Слайд 17The rules of play for soccer are simple. The referee makes
most of the decisions and attempts to encourage fair play. The game starts off with a kick off and the teams are allowed to pass, dribble, juggle, head, kick and shoot the ball to place it down the field, and (hopefully or eventually) into their opponent’s goal.
Слайд 18Most soccer games have 45-minute halves, and the clock is not
stopped except for injuries or deliberate time wasting. In professional soccer, only three to five substitutions are allowed per half. Generally, more are allowed in lower leagues.
Слайд 19Children often play football at school as early as elementary school.
Many adults play football. Soccer for many kids can be fun. Most children don’t think of soccer as work and often enjoy playing soccer. Adults also sometimes find soccer fun and even some adults have careers in the area as a professional soccer players.
Слайд 20As for me I like soccer very much. I like both
watching it and playing it. It is my favourite kind of sport.
