Each subcultural phenomenon encompasses its own set of fashion, style, behavior and perspectives or non-perspectives on life.

Any list of youth subcultures is incomplete as new are quick to appear while the old ones might change or be in the process of disappearance ...
 

the USA.
Red lipstick, hair plastered to the head with lacquer and sequined dresses were the order of the day for girls.

Men wouldn’t be seen in anything but a pressed tweed suit with a bowler hat.

The youth of that day hung out in back-street jazz clubs drinking moonshine and playing cards.

tight T-shirts and slicked back hair.
They are known more for their love of hot rod cars and ordinary or customized vans, rock'n'roll and rockability music.

Greasers

men in platform shoes with lots of glittery make-up, coloured and spiked hair, Victorian style shirts, vests, leather, feathers, lots of metallic and space-age colours.
Their music tended to be catchy rock with a teenage chart success.

New Romantic / Glam Rock

hip-hop that reflects the violent lifestyles of inner-city youth.  
Gangsta rap revolves around aggressive lyrics and trunk-heavy beats.

The Gangsta look is still going strong with icons such as
50 Cent and Jay-Z .

Carrying on the walk-with-a-limp, show-off-boxers and plaster-on-the-face look
it’ll never go out of fashion.

Gangsta

mainly centered around café racer motorcycles, rock and roll music.

To be part of this club, you need a mean-looking motorbike, long hair, tattoos and a curled lip. This was the era where the Hell’s Angels were born. This subculture is still going strong today, with all ages and creeds welcome.

ROCKERS

person more intelligent yet stylish.

With its thick-framed glasses, checked trousers, a tucked-in T-shirt, sweater vests and skinny ties, it borrowed a lot from such subcultures as Emo, Preppy and Goth.

Justin Timberlake and Leona Lewis are known for their geek chick fashion image among others.

Geek Chic

owned by the eccentric Vivienne Westwood back in the 70s.

In an extreme reaction to the other popular, neatly groomed and tidy style of the time – MODs – the punk look aimed to shock by combining mismatched patterns, ‘work’ boots, ripped denim and lots and lots of safety pins.

Characterized by anti-establishment views and the promotion of individual freedom, it seemed one
of the most infamous subcultures
of all time.

Punks

punk scene in the 80s.
It does draw comparisons from the Goth and New Romantic looks.
Inspired by bands with long names such as
The Day My Dog Went to Town
or Fire Eat Boy Eat Lamppost,
morbid youths all over the world decided to wear their hair in extreme side-partings, don neckerchiefs, black eyeliner, and jeans so tight that they can no longer feel their legs.

EMO

rock, it is all about a sludgy guitar sound, a high level of distortion, fuzz and feedback effects. 

Long, lank hair, knitted jumpers with holes in and scruffy jeans became the uniform of choice for grunge-lovers.

Grunge

iconic looks of all time.
Immortalized by The Beatles, Twiggy, and anyone that went to Woodstock, Hippies look was all about color, flower power, corduroys and looking laid back, man.

Hippies

an offshoot of the post-punk genre.
Just look for black nail polish, crucifix, bat tattoos, long dark hair, dark eyeliners, and Cradle of Filth T-shirt.  
It’s a mix of different styles: Gothic rock, deathrock, post-punk, darkwave, industrial and neoclassical music.

Goth

Goths.
They love to thrash out at rock concerts, only ever wear band t-shirts, have very long hair and wear a chain on their jeans.
They started out in the 80s and early 90s thanks to AC/DC and Metallica, and you’ll find them at the front of most mosh pits round the world, drinking – and spilling – cheap beer from a plastic cup.

Metallers

computer games.
Acceptance level to a “gamer society” – “I play computer games”.
Look out for “heavily gaming communities” who never game casually on a phone, Ipad or Ipod, just playing Angry Birds all day. 
Well, welcome to their world of escapists!

Gamers

the teddy boys in the 1960s.
Just imagine black leather jackets and jeans and boots; greased hair and rode motorcycles, listening to rock and rock'n'roll.
It is a highly visible subculture with organized rides as a key element.
They are in the habit of customizing their vehicles in various styles.

Bikers

Popped up in 2003, Flash mob is a group of people who assemble suddenly in a public place, perform an unusual and seemingly pointless act for a brief time, then quickly disperse, often for the purposes of entertainment, satire, and artistic expression. Organized on the Internet for some political, commercial or PR purpose.
