And it seems that all the pages of the great book called "The Earth" has been filled in, but exploration still goes on. In the 15th century people knew only 3 continents: Europe, Asia and Africa. They knew nothing about America. The man who was thought to be the discoverer of America was born in 1451 in Italy. His name was Christopher Columbus.

Columbus sailed on to find some gold
To bring back home, as he'd been told.

He made the trip again and again,
Trading gold to bring to Spain.

The first American? No, not quite.
But Columbus was brave, and he was bright.

Christopher Columbus (1451 – 1506) was a sailor. He discovered America for Spain in 1492. After that he returned to America three more times. At that time they believed that the new land was not America, but Asia.
