Слайд 3FACT OR MYTH?
When you eat or drink things stored in plastic,
is plastic incorporated into you?
MYTH
Plastic does not seem to affect human health; HOWEVER, it can dangerously effect other animal life and alter the environmental (air, water, and soil) causing hazardous pollution when it is dumped into the environment.
FACT
It causes immune and enzyme disorders, hormonal disruption leading to endocrinal disorders and even infertility and is also considered as carcinogenic (cancer).
Not only human health, it dangerously effects other animal life and alters the environmental (air, water and soil)sustainability causing hazardous pollution.
Слайд 4Can Plastics Kill?
Turtles are killed every year from plastic bag litter
in the aquatic environment as they often mistake plastic bags for food.
Слайд 5 Can Plastics Kill?
Birds are killed
……………………
Слайд 6 Can Plastics Kill?
Plastic in an animal’s gut can prevent
food digestion and can lead to a very slow and painful death.
Municipalities routinely receive reports of death of cows and other animals from ingesting plastic bags.
Слайд 7Plastics: Friend or Foe?
Plastic is ubiquitous in our lives because it
is convenient and Relatively inexpensive. It is convenience comes from being lightweight and its ability to absorb impact shock without breaking, which on its own merit, is hard to argue with.
Plastics are so versatile in use that their impacts the environment are extremely wide ranging, posing serious challenge for disposal
Слайд 8When Can It Become a Problem?
Careless disposal of plastic bags chokes
drains, blocks
the porosity of the soil, and causes problems for groundwater recharge.. Due to its non-biodegradable nature, littering of plastics causes irreversible damage to the environment.
Слайд 9ALTERNATIVES
Plastic bags take between 15 to 1000 years to degrade.
The
chemical pollutants released from them are a Serious Threat to be Tackled.
Designing eco-friendly, biodegradable plastics is the need of
the hour. Though partially biodegradable plastics have been
developed and used, completely biodegradable plastics based on
renewable starch rather than petrochemicals have only recently been developed and are in the early stages of commercialization.
Paper , Cloth, Jute, Cane, etc.,
are the most preferable but still
controversial

Слайд 14That's 22,176 bags in an average life time
Слайд 15If just 1 out of 5 people in our country did
this we would save
1,330,560,000,000 bags over our life time

To save your environment and thereby your self ---
Say NO
to plastic check-out bags whilst
shopping and buy reusable bags or bring
your own for your shopping instead
Use of Glass / Ceramic instead of
plastic in Microwave.
• Replace plastic travel mugs with stainless
steel for hot beverages.
• When you can’t avoid plastic, check container bottoms for recycling codes (in triangle with chasing arrows). Choose those easily recycled.

It's impossible to eliminate most plastic from daily life, but it's
prudent for our health and that of our environment to curb the use of some.
Overall reduction in plastic usage, proper management for disposal and public awareness would bring a great difference in present situation.
Separate, Store. and hand over for proper recycling or disposal.
Do not let plastic litter the environment.
SAVE EARTH
OUR RESPONSIBILITY
Слайд 19Bangladesh has banned plastic bags
Слайд 20China has banned free plastic bags
Слайд 21In 2005 Rwanda banned plastic bags
Слайд 22Ireland took the lead in Europe, taxing plastic bags in 2002
and have now reduced plastic bag consumption by 90%
Слайд 23Israel, Canada, western India, Botswana, Kenya, Tanzania, South Africa, Taiwan, and
Singapore have also banned or are moving toward banning the plastic bag . On March 27th 2007, San Francisco becomes first U.S. city to ban plastic bags

QUESTIONAIRES
BY STUDENTS
Do you use plastic bags?
They said no but 1% said yes.
Then what do you use instead of plastic bags?
They replied that they use paper bags or cloth bags or jute bags.
Why is it that you do not use plastic bags?
They told us that using plastic bags causes harm to the environment as well as to the society.
Do you provide your bags for free or do you charge
them for it?
Charging cost to keep the environment is against the nature there fore the give it for no cost, but not to the regular customers because they can bring their own bags from their home this is only provided randomly to the people coming new to the shop without any carry bags.
Are you doing it from your side to promote the use of cloth/paper bags?
The steps are taken by the govt. but they are supporting them.
