are from Olenegorsk. It is a small settlement in Allaikhovsky uluus which is situated on the Indigirka river, in the Arctic Zone, beyond the Polar Circle. Our settlement was founded in 1972. There is a monument to the reindeer like a symbol devoted to the foundation of our settlement for the compact residence of the indigenous population, which is mostly represented by the Evens, Evenks, Chuckchee and Yukaghirs. The population is about three hundred people.

people are a reindeer-breading, fishing and hunting. In the north every man has an opportunity to try his skills in the traditional hunting expedition. That’s why the most of the inhabitants in the north are the huntsmen & fishermen. They can’t imagine their lives without it. They are hunting for the polar fox, sable, hare, wolf & others.
There are a few enterprises there such as an electric power station, a central heating stocker, a reindeer-breading stock farming.

say a few words about our school. There is a secondary comprehensive school in our village where there are 51 pupils study today & the Even language is the mother tongue. There is also a small musical school where the children can learn the National folklore there. We have a Republican laureat dance group “Dobun”. There is a rural Library, a kindergarten ‘’Nimkan’’ & a Palace of Culture which is the centre of leisure in our village. In 2001 the group “Revival” was found in our school to propaganda the national traditions, customs, culture & langage of the indigenous population. In 2004 the Etnocultural centre “Nyeltenke” which means “Sun” was opened where the pupils can learn their genealogical family tree & to keep culture & the mother tongue of our ancectors. We have the memorial museum of the Great Patriotic war veterans . There is the club “The Choice” is organised in order to propaganda a healthy way of life.

to say a few words about the nature and climatic conditions of the Far north. The climate is sharply continental. Winters are extremely cold (down to 50 c) with its snow-storms. In summer the sun doesn’t set for many days, while in winter the Polar night reigns there long, long months and we can admire the Polar Lightening in the sky. The people who visit Olenegorsk admire its wonderful nature: by tundra, amazing lakes & our northern Indigirka river full of different kinds of fish such as a white salmon, sturgeon, chir, omul & others. There are more than 50 kinds of fish in the Indigirka river. The northern people like ‘’stroganina’’ made of the raw fresh & frozen fish, which is the most delicious dish.

The Yakut Institute of Biology takes part in the International UNESCO Programme ‘’Man & Biosphere’’ & cooperates with foreign scientists from Japan, USA, Canada, Finland. In spite of the frozen soil of a long standing perennial in tundra our place is rich in the placer deposits of gold fields, peat, iron, aluminium & gas.

the Great Patriotic War (1941-45).
(1915-2008)
He was born on January, 14th in 1915 in Churapchinsky uluus. In 1938 he was called up to the Red Army. He graduated from Yakutsk national military school and became the commander of the shooting division. Then at the beginning of the Great Patriotic War he was sent to the 17th air - desant division . In 1941 he took part in the battle for Smolensk and Stalingrad. He had a rank of the “The first Guardian”, the medal “For the defence (оборону) of the Stalingrad”and the order of Glory (Славы) of the 3rd degree.

1928. He was an even and he was a winner deer man - a winner of the socialist competition in 1975. He had 2 medals for the Labour in the Great Patriotic War (1941-45).
He was an honoured citizen in Allaikhovsky uluus.

Gorokhov Ivan Fedorovich

(1917-1998)
He was born in 1917 in Tumat, Ust-Yansky uluus. He was an even and he was a deer man, an honoured worker of national economy(народное хозяйство) of the Yakutian republic. He had 5 medals for the Labour in the Great Patriotic War (1941-45) and a chest-sign of the war –veteran of rear. He was an honoured citizen in Allaikhovsky uluus.

born in Oiotung in 1948. She is a famous performer of the “hээдьэ” in Allaikha. In 1969 she became the laureat of the artistic activity. In 1970 she took part in the Northern writer’s seminar in Yakutsk. Her famous songs are: “The reindeers”, “On the shore of Indigirka”, “I’m waiting for you”, “The standard of Ilyich”.

Akulina Trizer.

1936. He was a real deer-breeder. He was an Even melodist. His famous songs were : “Ulyana is a deergirl”, “The nice evening”, “The summer house’’.

Vasili Lebedev.

of a deer-breeder. He is a short story writer & melodist. His famous stories are: “Omukan” which was written in the magazine “Polar Star”. His famous songs are: “the light of Beryezovka”. For many years he collected & published “The Even folklore of Indigirka”. He was the first editor of the national radio-magazine ”Gevan”.

Egor Edukin.

a singer, writer & melodist. In 1980 he took part in the “Northern people’s Literature & Art” days in Yakutsk. He is also a laureate –singer of the northern people. His famous toyuk is the toyuk of the modern Evenman (on the Allaikha Even’s dialect).

Vladimir Sleptsov.

1930. He was a laureatof the Yakut Youth’s Festival of the Artistic Activity. He was a famous Even poet & melodist. His famous songs are: ”The song of a deerman”, “A Festival”, “For a beautiful girl”, “It is too cold”.

Dmitry Edukin (1930-1984).

& Honoured Teacher of the Even language. She is a very talented & legendary person. She is a laureate of the Russia’s artistic activity. She is an Even poet & melodist. Her famous poems are: “The tundra”, “The mountainous ram”. She devoted toyuk to the “Great Russian people”. Her toyuk “On the Congress” was written by the firm “Melody” in Moscow. She is a member of the Communist Party in the Soviet Union.

Evdokia Bokova.

He is a great Even poet. He was born in November, 13th, 1920, in Kobyaisky uluus. In 1937 he graduated from Yakutsk Teacher’s Training College & then he was a teacher in some northern schools. Platon Lamutsky was greatly interested in Even national folk-lore, took part in scientific expeditions, arranged by the Institute of Language, Literature & History of Sakha Republic. His first poems were published in 1939. His writing style was very expressive. He wrote the colourful poems for the Even school textbooks. He was remarkable for the description of a wild unique nature of the north. He was a brilliant expert of the rich Even folk-lore, he expressed his love to the brave northern people in a very poetic & artistic style. Therefore many beautiful national songs were composed of his poems & are still sung by the Evenmen. He collected “the Even folklore”. His collections of novels are: “The song of the Evenman”, “The little reindeer”.

Platon Lamutsky

was one of the most talented writers in Yakutia. Yukaghir by the nationality he knew & wrote his novels in the Russian, Yakut, Even & Chuckchee languages.
His first novel “We’ll meet in tundra” was published in Moscow in the Anthology of stories about the northern people. In 1969 his famous novel “Khanido & Khalerkha” was published in the newspaper “Soviet Russia.” He became the Laureat of Oiunsky Literary Prize for his two novels “Khanido & Khalerkha” & “The New People”. He show a true life, customs & traditions of the northern people. He depicted a social injustice, hardships of life to a poor people, destructive power of the rich merchants over uneducated but very honest & humble people, so-called “northern minorities”. The novel “The New People” shows the social changes & conflicts among Yukaghirs, the danger of language & culture’s loss. It warns against interference within harmony of a man & nature.
The author was full of optimism about the hidden spiritual power of people. He believed that spiritual & moral power of the indigenous would help them to overcome the difficulties of life & to preserve their culture. “The New People”. The collection of novells, stories & fairy-tales “Chaundaur”.

Simon Kurilov.

Even poet. His pen name is “The poet of the waked up place”. His autobiographical novels are: “My childhood”, “My life”, “I like the sun”. His poems are: “To the memory of Pushkin”;
collections of verses: “The Song of Taiga”, “The flight of the Golden Girl”, “The poem about Indigirka”.

Nikolai Tarabukin.

pen name is “Uluro Ado”. His nickname is “The first swallow of the Yukaghir literature.” His books are: “While the reindeers sleeping (dozing)”, the children’s book is “Yuko’s stories”. His poems are: “The melting snow”, “Numin”, “The sun doesn’t set”.

Pupil1: Take a fresh & frozen fish of such kind like chir, omul,taimen or nelma. Put it on its nose & scrap off the chips of raw fresh with huge sharp knife. Dip the chips in salt, pepper & ketchup.
