its lace. The art of weaving lace arised in ancient Russia. Lace was first mentioned in 1252. At the end of the 19th century women learnt new methods of work. Documentary confirmed date of the beginning weaving in Yelets is 1801.

Weaving of lace is very difficult

process. It needs different devices. Wooden sticks with a neck on which thread is reeled up. Threads are connected in pairs making the main unit of weaving. It is a pair of wooden sticks.
Weaving is made by crossing wooden sticks according to drawing. Value of lace depends on pairs of sticks. Sometimes for making lace is used thousands of sticks. The pillow in the form of bolster filling with straw is the next device. Pins are used for fixing

Our lace looks like snowflakes. As we can’t find similar snowflakes, so there isn’t similar Yelets lace. There isn’t so graceful, light, air, unforgettable, unique lace everywhere. You can find it only in our native town.
