Carlinhos Brown was born in Candeal in Salvador, Brazil, in
1962. As a musician, he soon became a major player on the Brazilian pop scene. In the 1990 he travelled around the world as the (1) of the musical group Timbalada. It consisted of over 100 singers and (2) , most of them young kids from Candeal. They became very famous and recorded eight (3) .
These musicians came from the Pracatum Music School that Carlinhos started in the very poor (4) of Candeal. He wanted to do something for the kids would stay away from the drugs and (5) of the slums. They learnt to play (6) samba rhythm, on plastic containers and (7) at first, and then they go on to other instruments. Many of the students have become famous musician and the work started by Carlinhos has improved the (8) of Candeal.
