for all people in Great Britain – Christmas. People send X-mas cards to their friends and relatives. People buy a Christmas tree and decorate it with toys, coloured balls and lights.
Children wake up early to find stockings full of small presents from Santa Claus on their beds.

December. Most people meet their friends and relatives.
At midnight they sing New Year songs and wish happy New Year each other.

February. It is started over 2 000 years ago and considered to be a holiday for lovers. On this day boys and girls, sweethearts and lovers, husbands and wives exchange greetings of affection. People send each other valentine cards without signing or just write there “be my Valentine” or “From your Valentine”. Usually these cards are made in form of a heart.

Mother’s Day. It is a very lovely celebration. On this day children give their mothers flowers, little nice presents, greeting cards to show them love. Some children try to do their best to help their mothers about the house.

St. Patrick’s day. On that day people wear a shamrock. A shamrock is a plant with three leaves. It is the national symbol of Ireland.
St. Patrick was a man who had wonderful power. He cleared Ireland of snakes.

Sunday after full moon in May or April. Before this holiday people color eggs. Children believe that Bunny, a big Easter hare, brings them presents and chocolate eggs to this holiday.
 

English children like this day very much. They play jokes and tricks on other people, even on teachers.

the 31st of October. Its celebration includes wearing masks and costumes, going from house to house, collecting money and sweets, “trick or treat”. Ancient Halloween custom is making jack-o’-lanterns from pumpkins.
  Children like Haloween parties, they put on witch’s and  ghost’s dresses.

put a bomb under the Houses of Parliament in London, and the guards found not only the bomb but also Guy Fawkes there. The King’s men cut off his head in the Tower of London. Now English people have a tradition to light fireworks and make bonfires on this day.
