Слайд 1There are so many countries on the Earth and so many

people living on it. We are different. We have different skin colour. We have different political views and rather often it leads to military conflicts. We believe in one thing or another. Some people believe in the supernatural: for them the world that can’t be explained scientifically is as real as anything. Others will argue with them and say that they believe only in those things that can be proved.

You give only odd numbers of flowers to people; you take even numbers to funerals and for the dead.

If you forget something and have to return for it, you look in the mirror and smile or stick out your tongue.
You never give sharp objects, handkerchiefs or mirrors as gift.

Слайд 10Old superstitions connected with number 13:

One of them says that if 13 people sit down at a table to eat, one of them will die before the year is over. If you ever find yourself with 13 guests, invite one of them to leave the room so there are only 12 people. Alternatively, just poison one of the guests.
According to another superstition, never organise or do anything on Friday 13th as it’s unlucky. This is the day that Adam and Eve were expelled from the Garden of Eden. It’s also the day that Noah’s flood started and the day on which Christ was crucified. Number 13 is also unlucky because 12 witches plus one devil are present at satanic ceremonies - and those thirteen make a deadly combination!

Слайд 16Greek Mythology
Greek mythology is the body of myths and legends belonging

to the ancient Greeks, concerning their gods and heroes, the nature of the world, and the origins and significance of their own cult and ritual practices. They were a part of religion in ancient Greece. Modern scholars refer to, and study the myths in an attempt to throw light on the religious and political institutions of Ancient Greece, its civilization, and to gain understanding of the nature of myth-making itself.

Слайд 17 Greek mythology is embodied, explicitly (детально), in a large

collection of narratives, and implicitly (неявно) in Greek representational arts, such as vase-paintings. Greek myth attempts to explain the origins of the world, and details the lives and adventures of a wide variety of gods, goddesses, heroes, heroines, and mythological creatures. These accounts initially were disseminated (распространены) in an oral-poetic tradition; today the Greek myths are known primarily from Greek literature.

Слайд 18 Mythology was at the heart of everyday life in

Ancient Greece. Greeks regarded mythology as a part of their history. They used myth to explain natural phenomena, cultural variations, traditional enmities (вражда; антагонизм, враждебность, неприязнь) and friendships. It was a source of pride to be able to trace one's leaders' descent from a mythological hero or a god. Few ever doubted that there was truth behind the account of the Trojan War in the Iliad and Odyssey. Еhe profound knowledge of the Homeric epos was deemed (считалось) by the Greeks the basis of their acculturation (воспитание ребёнка в традициях культуры конкретного общества). Homer was the "education of Greece".
