through endless heroism of our countrymen, which brought glory to our people.

Our project is our way to thank the soldiers of the Great War living among us for their heroism.

The Soviet capital played a special role in Hitler’s military plan- he believed that the seizure of Moscow would cause immediate collapse of the Soviet Union.

Leningrad’s horrific siege was one of the most lethal in world history. It lasted for 900 days.

The battle took place between 17 July 1942 and 2 February 1943,and is often Cited as one of the turning points of the War.

of them had the chance to meet their father after the war.

war is coming on. Again May will come to our land and it will bring one of the brightest and the most memorable dates of our country-the 9th of May, the day of Victory. Of course, some of them are not alive but we love, remember and respect them all. Thousands of soldiers and ordinary people were awarded the title Hero of the Soviet Union, the highest distinction in the Soviet Union.

Heroes, and 2 four-time Heroes were awarded for heroic feats in service.
Not only men fought for the freedom, but also women showed themselves courageous with strong will and character. There are 87 heroes of the Soviet Union among women.

7 are in present day Russia, 4 lie within Ukraine, while the remaining 2 are in Belarus.

than 500 000 Armenians fought in that war, 200 000 of which never returned home. One hundred Armenian servicemen have become heroes of the Soviet Union, Two of them have received the honour twice. Twenty-seven Armenians have been honoured endowed with the full Order of Glory. Sixty Armenians have got the ranks of general, admiral or marshal during the war.

went to fight leaving his wife and children in Armavir. He couldn’t do other way. He fought bravely. And he was killed in Ukraine, in Rava Russkaya near Lvov. He was buried in the same field where he was killed. Now there is a school named after Mark Stepanyan in Rava Russkaya and there is a street named after him in Lvov. His friends wrote a song for him and I’d like to recite it for you in Russian.

This is Jane’s great-grandfather. His name is Makar Stepanyan. He was born in 1914 in Armavir. He was very shy, modest and serious. And all his relatives were surprised that he decided to become a soldier and to serve his fatherland.

see his photo on the screen. His name was Artashes Vasilyan. He had a wife and four children. He loved them very much but he understood that it was necessary to leave them, because his fatherland was in danger. So he left them to fight against enemy. He was the Colonel of Armenian famous 89th Division. It was established at Kursk in 1941. In January 1943 they moved to Ingushetia and set free Malgobek. Artashes Vasilyan was killed on February 9, 1943.

Only a little over a million veterans survive to be with us.

We would like to name them each and everyone of them and express our heartfelt gratitude for their heroism.

not become darkened by everyday problems, to say a good word right on time, to show concern and to take trouble. It’s very important to remember the people who stood up for our motherland in those days.
It’s our heroic Past. It is with us in Present and it will be with us in Future.

After victory was achieved, you worked hard to raise our cities and villages from ruins and to build our powerful country.

Live long, our veterans, your heroic feat will be eternally inscribed in the history of our motherland. You are admired for great courage and noble character. We are deeply grateful to you. We shall do our best to be your deserved generation.
