war is coming on. Again May will come to our land and it will bring one of the brightest and the most memorable dates of our country-the 9th of May, the day of Victory. than 500 000 Armenians fought in that war, 200 000 of which never returned home. One hundred Armenian servicemen have become heroes of the Soviet Union, Two of them have received the honour twice. Twenty-seven Armenians have been honoured endowed with the full Order of Glory. Sixty Armenians have got the ranks of general, admiral or marshal during the war.

Слайд 23From the very first day of the Great Patriotic war he

went to fight leaving his wife and children in Armavir. He couldn’t do other way. He fought bravely. And he was killed in Ukraine, in Rava Russkaya near Lvov. He was buried in the same field where he was killed. Now there is a school named after Mark Stepanyan in Rava Russkaya and there is a street named after him in Lvov. His friends wrote a song for him and I’d like to recite it for you in Russian.

This is Jane’s great-grandfather. His name is Makar Stepanyan. He was born in 1914 in Armavir. He was very shy, modest and serious. And all his relatives were surprised that he decided to become a soldier and to serve his fatherland.

Слайд 24Mike’s great-grandfather also took part in the Great Patriotic war. You

see his photo on the screen. His name was Artashes Vasilyan. He had a wife and four children. He loved them very much but he understood that it was necessary to leave them, because his fatherland was in danger. So he left them to fight against enemy. He was the Colonel of Armenian famous 89th Division. It was established at Kursk in 1941. In January 1943 they moved to Ingushetia and set free Malgobek. Artashes Vasilyan was killed on February 9, 1943.

Mike’s great-grandfather also took part in the Great Patriotic war. You see his photo on the screen.

Only a little over a million veterans survive to be with us.

We would like to name them each and everyone of them and express our heartfelt gratitude for their heroism.

for our people, but it didn’t break your spirit. You defeated fascism and brought liberation to millions of people at a price of immense strains. You defended the independence of our homeland. After victory was achieved, you worked hard to raise our cities and villages from ruins and to build our powerful country.

Today we bow our heads to your courage and strong will.
Live long, our veterans, your heroic feat will be eternally inscribed in the history of our motherland. You are admired for great courage and noble character. We are deeply grateful to you. We shall do our best to be your deserved generation.
