1351 by order of the Grand master of the Teutonic order Winrich von Kniprode was rebuilt in stone. Before the construction of the stone castle, all wooden buildings were dismantled and burned, and the remaining area was leveled with sand and soil. On the four sides of the platform there were strong stone foundations, on which later was built the stone and brick walls. it was repeatedly captured by Lithuanians and Tatar Mongols
